Leather cord is used to a great deal in making jewelry

Leather cord is used to a great deal in making jewelry. Many jewelry designers create necklaces, bangles, bracelets, cuffs and many other fashion accessories using leather cord as a base material. The great thing about leather cord is the finish and the many different types and sizes available in it. However, anyone who has ever worked with a leather cord would certainly agree that when you buy leather cord, there are certain things that you should know of regarding the use of leather cord. Here are three important things that every jewelry designer needs to do with the leather cord during, before and after its use:

Straightening the leather cord
Anyone who has ever bought a leather cord would certainly want to know of ways to avoid getting wrinkles or lines on the leather cord because it really diminishes the appeal in some way. To shape the cords or to straighten them, there are a couple of easy methods but here we will discuss the most used and the most popular method.
Take the wrinkled cord, bundle the free ends of the cord together and hold them like this with a rubber band. Next up, run hot water over them for close to 10 seconds, post this, you just need to hand them or lay them flat on a surface and let them dry. The leather is straightened out and smoothens as well. If there are, parts of the leather cords that still do not appear flat or straightened, put some weight on the particular areas right after the hot water routine.  This is the simplest and easiest method to straighten a leather cord.
Finish the leather cord
There are so many things that you can use to finish the leather jewelry. You can use amongst the different types of cord ends like the hook cord end or the clasp end, you can also use a coil, magnet, fold over clasp or just simply knot the ends. End caps and conical beads are also great to work with leather. To give your leather jewelry a professional look, make sure that the leather has a nice finish and there are no rough edges.
Rolling the Leather Cord
Storing the leather cord post usage is quite easy; you will just need a spindle over which you can roll over the leather cord. This will ensure that the leather cord is not entangled and remains sorted. This especially comes in handy in case of leather strings that might even tear off if clustered together badly. If the leather cords is rubbed together, it can cause discoloration or minor tears to appear.
These are very basic tips that one should keep in mind when making leather cord jewelry. There are other important things as well like how to braid the leather, how to make cuffed bracelets, how to get a fine finish to your leather jewelry, how to store the leather cord and so on. One should always stay informed of all the ways in which they can store, use, manage and preserve leather cords, if they intend to make jewelry and accessories using it.
